Get out your skates and hit the ice at Oxbow's newly redecorated Community Rink. Thanks to Oxbow's Branch 187 of the Royal Canadian Legion and the Oxbow Lions Club, there's once again free ice time for public skating.
The Lions accordint to treasurer Bob Goodward, have been donating to the Rink and offering the community free ice time for over a decade. Anybody can skate. "Nobody has to collect money and nobody has to pay," he said.
Rhonda Hodgson for the Legion said the money comes from "the Bingo fund. The community supports the Legion by coming to Bingo and Beef raffle evenings. It's one way we give back to the community."
Rink Board member Tami Scott calls the donation of public skating time "a real asset to the commuity." Public skating time from 12:30 to 2:00 Sundays and 3:30 to 4:15 p.m. on Mondays and Thursdays. Sundays she said are often the busiest when parents bring young children out for a turn on the ice. Sticks and pucks are not allowed.
But sticks and pucks and helmets are what you need for the public skating Shoot-Around times, Sunday mornings from 11:00 to 12:30 p.m. and Fridays from 3:30 to 5:15 p.m.
Schott said the Rink is in full swing now and humming along...(Please read the rest of the Oxbow Herald for this and other news!)
